The Back-of-House Extension
Construction is well underway, with some key milestones reached.
Building a Better Airport
The Back-of-House (BoH) Extension is an exciting first step in our capital delivery programme. It will deliver fit-for-purpose workspaces and improve the resilience of the airport infrastructure.
Over the next 22 months, we’re transforming outdated and temporary facilities into modern spaces for key airport partners, including Air New Zealand, Planebiz, Aviation Security Services, and QAC. This project also includes critical upgrades to electrical systems and airfield lighting infrastructure, ensuring our airport is future-ready.
We’re proud to invest in infrastructure that supports our people and enhances the traveller experience. This extension is part of a wider capital development programme that will help Queenstown Airport grow sustainably and serve our region for years to come.
We know construction is disruptive, but bear with us; the result will be worth it!
Project Timings
Construction started in April 2025 and will run through early 2027. From September 2025, airport employees and contractors are expected to experience changes in airside access and screening.
Temporary disruption is expected, but we’re working hard to minimise the impact.
